Cruising items wanted

Hi all we are planning an extended cruise, 2 years around the Caribbean in our 34ft Gemini Catamaran and looking for some items secondhand if available:

Water maker - electric or manual (for emergency)
Sea anchor (for 34 ft Cat)
Radar (complete package)
AIS (transponder)
EPIRB
SSB radio or Sat phones
Outboard for dinghy - light say around 3HP
Life raft
Davits
12V refrigerator (we have propane but looking to replace).

We are based now in New York City and will be going south in October so maybe an option to pick up things en route.

Any suggestions offers appreciated.

Thanks...

Re: Cruising items wanted

You might want to reconsider the use of a sea anchor for a cat. There are some significant threads you can use here on cruisers forum by searching via the search function. Most would agree that's something like a Jordan series drogue is more applicable for a cat than a sea anchor.

Re: Cruising items wanted

just saw your post about equipment needs. If you are still looking, I might be able to help with SSB (ham rig), Satphone (globalstar 1600 with all the "bits"), Epirb with hydraulic release. I'm in Annapolis, if you are heading south.

You might also consider a larger outboard. You will find that a 3hp, while light (the 2 cycle weighs under 30 lbs) just will not push your dinghy through much chop. Suggest something bigger with a outboard crane.

Re: Cruising items wanted

I have a Katadyne 40 e water maker. It is very compact and easily shippable. It uses about 3.5 amps when making 1.5 gals. per hour. I have kept the membrane clean with biocide every three months. The watermaker is presently installed in my boat which is for sale.

Hi Notrevoyage

If you're interested in an emergency water maker I have a PUR/Katadyn 35 for sale. Forget exactly but think it is 10 years old or so but is military surplus emergency pack, never used. I purchased a couple dozen to get wholesale deal but a couple of the people that committed backed out so I have one left. $250 plus shipping. New over $2000. Katadyn Survivor 35 Watermaker

Instructions say the membrane should be replaced if this old but a forum member that's a Katadyn expert said if sealed it's probably still good. However, for emergency gear I would probably rebuild it anyway. Forget the exact prices but if I recall about $300-$400 for new membrane and rebuild kit from Defender. So could have it like new for around $600.
