CPT Drive unit

I want to do some experimenting with an alternate compas arrangement and need a working CPT drive unit for the project.

So if you have a COF with a defunct head but a good drive unit I’m your man.

Call Jeff at CPT. He might have some spare pieces around.

You are not the only one The CPT drive unit has many excellent attributes. If you get the interface figured out please post. It could be a revolution in wheel pilots!

Re: CPT Drive unit

If I could use my Zeus to drive the CPT, then that would be something. Simple drive system, sophisticated features.
However I would have buy the interface, I’m sure I wouldn’t be smart enough to build it.

Re: CPT Drive unit

Thanks guys. I’ll call Jeff if nothing comes up here in a while. I’ve got some time to work on this as it’s for the big boat which won’t relaunch until octoberish.

I actually have two complete set ups but I don’t want to trash my spare for this “experiment”.

Re: CPT Drive unit

I’m in NJ right now. I could pick up a unit (drive or reasonable whole) in a wide area.

Re: CPT Drive unit

Boy, I’ve been looking on Craig’s list and Ebay for a couple of months with nothing turning up. I’m surprised.

Re: CPT Drive unit

The CPT's seem to be sought after, when used ones come up for sale, they seem to go fast and for a high price

Re: CPT Drive unit

So it would seem. Yet I’ve bought 3 over the last few years. I have 2 complete set ups and the third that I got for real cheap turned out to have been totaled by water intrusion in all components, nothing salvadgeabke.

So the dearth of units seems to be a newish event. Or I’m doing something really stupid in my searching.

I’m searching “CPT autopilot”. how could that be wrong?

CPT Drive unit

Just know they rarely come up for sale here, and even the old ones with the dial to select heading, go fast, and sometimes for more than I would pay for something of that age.

I think your really onto something though, if I could drive my CPT with my Zeus and have all the functionality of a “real” underdeck autopilot without all the hassle, what’s not to like?

Re: CPT Drive unit

Worst comes to worst I’ll delve into the spare drive unit and try to come up with a way to switch it between two modes; normal and Pypilot. Really don’t want to muck with a working unit if I don’t have to.

Re: CPT Drive unit

I may end up doing something different.

I’ve been having terrible luck with Raymarine ST 2000 tiller pilots. Kinda long story but I’m finding the drive quit on one and gyros whit on others. I’ve 3 of these units and two failed this summer, one a second time with less than 20 hours. Maybe I’ll take one any hook the PiPilot up to drive that.

On the small boat I use a Raymarine 2000ST to drive the outboard tiller on my aux rudder windvane.
