Chain/Hawse pipe.

I just bought an Ideal vertical windlass and need a hawse pipe. It is the type that the chain runs in horizontally and turns 90 degrees down to go thru the deck. They have a metal slide in cover/door that has a slot to go over the chain. Anybody have on for sale. My chain size is 3/8. Thanks, ____Grant. P.M. me.

Re: Chain/Hawse pipe.

The hawse isn't part of the windlass? Doesn't the windlass direct the chain below thru kind of a tube?
You mean you are looking for someone that has one of these? This is off Ideals website.

Re: Chain/Hawse pipe.

Cheechako, yes that is what I am looking for. Since I just bought a working windlass and 150 foot of chain for less than Ideal wants for the hawse pipe, I am trying to find a used one for a reasonable price. I will see what happens._____Grant.

Re: Chain/Hawse pipe.

Check Seadog version, about $25-30 but you'll likely need a guide block to encourage the chain over the edge of the pipe. Sacrificial chunk of hardwood or HDPE.

Re: Chain/Hawse pipe.

Thanks, Dimaxion, but I dont think those would work. The one from Ideal is perfect, but they are over $250, so I will spend some time looking. I think I need to start following the Frugal Sailor thread. I seem to fit into that category. I have enough work (time) ahead of me on the boat that I dont need to rush at this point. Thanks again. ____Grant.
