1980 Contessa 26 $22,000 USD

We sailed out of Port Townsend, WA, USA 4 years ago and have been sailing our Contessa 26 "Xanthus" around the pacific ever since. She's been a wonderful full time home for us. We are currently in Apia, Samoa, at least for the next month or so and then it's on to some other beautiful pacific island. Xanthus was built in Ontario in 1980. She's a true world cruiser and in great shape. We did a major refit in Hawai'i 2012/2013. She comes with her trusty companion, "Lucy" a 10' 4" nesting hard dinghy with sailing rig. The dinghy is a Danny Greene chameleon design. As it seems with most boats there is lots more money in this boat then the asking price. Feel free to make an offer.

Re: 1980 Contessa 26 $22,000 USD

The Contessa 26 is, like the old Alberg 30 and the Westsail 32, a proven bluewater design that would drive most people nuts because of the small interior space. But that's a late model and rerigged and equipped as you've listed, it would make an ideal boat for a young couple to go '70s style in their 20s or 30s for a few years.

To be honest, it would probably help if they were compactly built!

Anyway, that's a fair price and I wish you luck with it.

Re: 1980 Contessa 26 $22,000 USD

This is the most expensive Contessa 26 I have ever seen! I remember when it was easy to find one for well under 10K. Of course the cheaper ones don't have the nice gear. Why put such nice gear on an old folkboat???

Personally, I would pick an Albin Vega because it has a lot larger interior. You can still find those for under 10K.

it might look a bit pricy, but the refitting they did on it brings it up.

Hi what would be your preferred handover location/date (noting your text mentions some intention to keep cruising for a while?)

Regards,
Owen

Re: 1980 Contessa 26 $22,000 USD

Hello, we are currently in Vava'u Tonga with Xanthus. We appologize but our Internet connection is very weak most of the time when we have it. We've made a blog page while we were in Apia with a lot of photos and information on it. Please go here svxanthus.blogspot.com for more info if you are looking for it. We are trying to post more photos on our add here and hopefully will be successful sometime soon. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have and we will do our best to resond. Thanks. Re: 1980 Contessa 26 $22,000 USD

We really love it here in Vava'u, great protected sailing dozens of great anchorages, so we are not really in any hurry to leave. Sorry but we are horrible at knowing where we're going to be more than a couple of weeks out. We spent cyclone season here last year, had such a good time and made quite a few friends so we are tempted to stay this year as well, if we haven't sold Xanthus before then.
