Wireless Audio Speakers

Hi Folks

Did my due diligence and searched CF and the internet. I'm looking for a wireless audio system that I can hook up an ipod or computer to and have wireless remote speakers. Salon, vee berth, aft cabin, cockpit.

Many thanks

Brian

Re: Wireless Audio Speakers

My solution for music has been one of the Bose portable units. I can move it about the boat and it has good sound and has lasted surprisingly long, especially given that I've been until recently using it aboard a comparatively damp F-27 trimaran.

Re: Wireless Audio Speakers

Recently bought a BIG JamBox for other purposes. It has an internal battery charged off 12V, works either by plugging in an iPod or any other device via jack input, or works by bluetooth with an iPad or iPod or iPhone. The battery last 12+ hr. The sound is as crystal clear as the Bose units and just as loud, but much smaller footprint. It would make a fantastic boat unit, especially if you are concerned with power usage.

Re: Wireless Audio Speakers

Lots of options for wireless speakers BUT a wireless speaker has to make the sound, that is it has to have an amplifier. The signal from a wireless source does not have enough power to operate the speaker. So all the wireless speakers will have an audio amplifier built in and will require some source of power to operate the amplifier.

Most of the systems will plug into the wall with one of the little black transformers but a few can operate on 12V or battery.

If you want to look at options online Crutchfield has a good list here Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras

All things considered on a boat with limited options for power it might be simpler to just run wires from your main stereo to the different places you want a speaker.

Sorry, I'm confused (easily done). Are you saying that you have stand alone, bluetooth speakers that work without batteries or any external power source?

Sorry, I confused you. Such a thing does not exist. Sound data via bluetooth, power via cable. Hence NOT wireless. I am not sure such a thing exists anyways.

Cheers,

Re: Wireless Audio Speakers

We've had one of these for a year and it's been terrific. Music plays through our laptops, tablets, or phones (with blue tooth). It has an 1/8th jack as well which is good for movies on the laptop since Bluetooth tends to create a slight lag between the audio and video.

I use it daily at this point. Working out, beach parties, underway in the cockpit, for movies at night, etc. I'm always the hit of the party because I can bring the sound system.

It charges up in a couple of hours and the charge lasts for ~5 hours. It will play while it's charging. Local functions are on the box itself so you can skip through songs and pause stuff. I've been really happy.

I have this and it works great, very neat design. I can throw it in the water and it will float with the speakers up playing music. Nice for bringing along on hikes and to the beach.

Well please enlighten me. How would you power a wireless speaker on a boat?

Internal batteries? Don't want to keep replacing batteries.

Rechargeable? Either have to run a wire to the speaker for charging or carry the speaker back and forth to a charger.

12V DC from the main battery? Still have to run a wire to the speaker for power.

125V AC? Have to have an inverter or generator and still have to run a wire to the speaker.

Maybe you know about a speaker that draws energy from the ether and needs no source of power?
