The cellular modem plugs into the cradle point and it creates wifi network on the boat. I run the unit up with a halyard and an extension cord from the inverter. I have cruised iCalifornia to Mexico and currently the Great Lakes to east coast again starting next month. I usually fly to work site. Or work from boat, then move the boat along on weekends and long holidays. I first came up with this technique when sailing off the California coast and needed connectivity off Monterey. I came with in 5 miles of shore to conduct my calls. No one at work was the wiser. It worked in mexico as well. So now I cruise and work at the same time. It's also nice to share connectivity in remote places with other cruisers.
