Re: Why do people pay for somebody else's fun?

For every new thread on this topic there are always same arguments on this topic.

Is it really hate that drives you.

If you dont like it dont watch it, its that simple. Or watch it and dont donate no one will care.

But stop forcing your opinions on other people and what they do with their hard earned money.

And as for the vlogers, do they harm you in any way, do you pay for them in any way, probably not, so why do you care?

We constitute far less of the general population than the mythical 1%-ters. If the Kardashians can make a buck over portraying a life most people fantacize about, why not some YT boaters?
Not to everyones taste (nor my own) but as PT Barnum succinctly put it - there’s one born every minute

Forcing? That's a strong word. How about "offering", as that is what I do with my thoughts and opinions. I also like to mix in a little common sense, which appears to be evaporating over the past couple of decades due to social media.

What drives me? Amazement. Personally, I consider it to be a very stupid decision to toss away money to strangers begging for funds, especially when they are only shoving out home movies on YouTube - which, by design, is FREE to watch. That's the whole concept of YouTube. Somehow, scammers have now slipped in who cogently -- and very slyly -- "con" the money out of the pockets of "idiot" viewers. That's how I see it. I never have respect for con artists. You may see it differently.

Would you like some more? OK, here you go:

Smart Mom: "Here's your $1.00 weekly allowance for doing chores."
Child: "Wow! Now I can go buy that chocolate bar at the corner store!"
Smart Mom: "Wait a second. Sit down. We need to have a talk."
Child: "OK Mom, but I really want that yummy chocolate bar."
Smart Mom: "Do you understand what happens if you throw away your good money for a chocolate bar? Yes, it will make you feel good for the short term, yet you will soon be hungry for a real dinner. The chocolate bar really doesn't have any nutritional value, and a smart child needs good vitamins. Moreover, if you give away your $1.00, the man who makes the chocolate bar will invest YOUR money and soon have a BIG house, three cars, and a good nest egg for retirement. You will have NOTHING, except hunger pangs. Do you want that?"
Child: "Gee Mom, but I'm still young and stupid, and I love chocolate. It makes me feel good. I don't know why."
Smart Mom: "Don't worry, you'll some day grow up and be smart. Now go outside and play with your friends, and SAVE your $1.00 for a rainy day, because if you don't, the chocolate bar man will be laughing all the way to the bank ... with YOUR money."

Cough cough. Please continue, y'all. I've got some on-line "investing" to do. I love making money, as opposed to tossing it away to scammers who I don't know and will never meet.

Re: Why do people pay for somebody else's fun?

It’s an Interesting thread!
I make videos for YouTube. Just about 10k views all told, I made the first video to save my own ass because I bought the boat without telling my wife. In my defence I had not had my morning coffee when I clicked on the eBay Auction.
Then people just kept and keep asking for more. I don’t get it, but hey there we are. I support and watch Emerald steel and Keep Turning left. One gives good advice and I enjoy watching, the other makes beautiful videos of the Coast of the UK. Why should I not pay for it? I would not pay for a Football game or a premium channel but with the drivel on tv or streaming this day its quite nice to watch something different and entertaining.
Having said that, we had to HIDE for the last few months on account of everyone and their dog knowing who we are. Seriously I had a dude travel from Scotland to my marina in the south of the UK just to see the refit and give us an anchor. Now that was surreal. I did not ask for anything I’m way to proud.
The question then becomes if it turns into an occupation. If that is the case then you are a filmmaker independent of taste and quality. La vagabond is really not my style. I like Delos more... but the thing is most people devour what the Kardashians do. That is completely beyond anything my brain can understand. And they PAY for it. And Buy all kinds of stuff, Its Kardashian.
Some of those channels are worth paying others not. You can complain Opera is too expensive then go to a football match
So, there you go. My two cents. You can watch my new teaser. Its bad and you don’t have to pay!
And we make them just for fun and to spite the naysayers that said we can’t do the refit.

But its OK to waste money on depreciating assets like Boats, cars, computers, i-crap, etc...but don't give a buck to a YT channel cause that's just wasting money. Your a genius.

LOL! Hey mom, you own a boat and you want to lecture about smart investments

In the investment world "The Dow dropped 464 points, or 2%, on Thursday. The index closed below 23,000 for the first time since October 2017. The Nasdaq lost 1.6% and only narrowly avoided closing in its first bear market since the Great Recession. The S&P 500 declined 1.6%. And US oil prices are in free fall, ending below $46 a barrel for the first time since August 2017."

Looks like a solid investment mom! Just a hint for the oil industry to make any money it needs to be at or above $50 a barrel. $46 isn't cutting it!

Wow so they are;

Scammers
Beggars
Con-artists

What more?

Are you sure you are not running out of adjectives.

Every single thing in entertainment that we watch on the TV, go to a movie, theatre or whatever is made by a producer and sold to a network or alike for cash.

Is it the fact that this content is free and can be watched on Youtube and not the Travell channel, Netflix, National Geographic or other that makes it such a scam. Or is it the audacity the producers have by asking for a donation out of the watchers free will that makes it a scam.

Or is it that you people cant accept others being successful at what they do in a free market environment taking advantage of new technology and new ideas.

Thank you. I've been told that more than once. I like using my money to make more money. In this day and age of idiots on social media platforms, people often approach me and say "Man, you're a genius!" I usually reply "Thanks, but actually, and if you must know, it's just common sense."

Throw away (i.e., waste) your money however you wish. You only live once. Make money, or BLOW IT away to strangers. It's your choice.

Re: Why do people pay for somebody else's fun?

Everytime you buy somthing you are "paying for somone elses fun"

At least this way you can see a direct effect on what you are giving and reducing the middlemen down to one

I dont pay to watch. Nor would i ask others to pay if i were to do somthing similar

You should consider how much time and money making opportunities you are wasting from your online investments, trolling this and previous threads on this topic. It does not seem very smart either.

Some of my TEST welds end up on instagram weldporn. I charge a fair price for my level of skill.

Then in comes Billy the Old sailor with a destroyed bow roller and I spend half a day burning gas and material and charge the dude £30 for the morning work. But this is "Billy" the Old sailor guy that has a small boat he cannot really afford but is always ready to land a hand or give you any item them he can spare. There are more "Billies" then I can count. They also come over on the spot when I need a hand.

But according to you, i'm just being silly wasting MY money and MY time for which I charge.

Do remind me of that if you ever happen to walk into my shop
"Make money, or BLOW IT away to strangers. It's your choice"

I'll leave you with a Gladiator quote. what we do in life, echoes in eternity

What's the matter? You don't like common sense? You like scammers who post home movies?

Question: If I give you my mailing address, will you send me your hard-earned money every week, of every month, of every year? If you do, I'll send you a "thank you" note. Let me know if you want my address. I'm really a nice guy. I smile into cameras, and my wife looks very good on a beach with no bikini top.

I'll be waiting by the phone. (hahaha)

Re: Why do people pay for somebody else's fun?

I really don’t understand the anger or envy some people seem to exhibit towards those managing to make money selling their content online. People producing content others want to read/listen-to/watch is what used to be the domain of publishing, radio/TV/film. Now the medium is the Internet — what’s the big deal?

In the past the payment models were more controlled, more defined. An author would get a contract to write a book (or to make it personal, a magazine article). Publisher or producer would pay the creator, and then make profit selling this creation to consumers.

Today the market has so devalued creation that middle-men can’t/won’t pay creators for their work. So creators have found ways to bypass these folk and go directly to ‘consumers of content.’ They offer their wares, and people can choose to pay, or not.

This is not begging. This is not charity work. In fact, those who are successful in this business are people who are highly skilled and talented. It takes a tremendous amount of effort and resources to produce quality content. It’s no different than those who sell their skills and products as business owners, nurses or charter captains.

These folks are producing a product that some people are willing to pay for. The payment mechanisms have changed, but the basic formula remains the same. They are selling product for money.
