How did we get to here?
Oh that’s easy. We’re quickly returning to the feudal economy where there are a few ‘owners’ and a vast horde of serfs who pay rent to the masters.

Exactly.

It’s like Public Radio- you can listen for free or donate-you’re choice, either way, you’re no one’s forcing you to listen to commercials.

You ask: Why do people pay for someone else's fun?

Well; for a man with a boat - the horizon forever tugs as his soul. For the man without a boat - a boat forever tugs at his soul. The sea calls, the wind calls - but not everyone who feels that Dream can answer in person.

Why did people buy Chichester's books? Hiscocks? Robinson's? And a hundred others? Why indeed. It is because a part of a Dream is better than nothing. And also; some have no other choice, or perhaps even desire, but to cruise without leaving a chair by the fire.

Why would one give his/her hard earned money to somebody else just to allow that somebody else to keep having fun.
I understand some "male" desire to look at pretty women in swimsuits, but is this the reason?
your comments please.

Re: Why do people pay for somebody else's fun?

For me the answer is simple: I found one sailing youtube channel that I find entertaining, so I contribute to help make sure it keeps going. My wife calls it my sailing porn... Yes, I'm paying for somebody else to live my fantasy, but it's better than watching CSI: Wichita or Real Housewives of Salt Lake, or whatever the latest show on TV happens to be.

Re: Why do people pay for somebody else's fun?

It’s called entertainment. You pay for a bunch of nuckle heads on TV to tell you what to think. You pay for some hot babes to run around on the beach acting as lifeguards. What exactly is the difference? It’s entertainment.

Some of these folks do a good job and are rewarded for it. Many never make it and have to go home. The difference is usually how much work they put into it.

You don’t have to watch and you don’t have to pay. And if you don’t think producing even a half way decent video isn’t a lot of work you have a lot to learn.

Because, the government makes me do it?

The reasons some people pay may vary depending on the payer. I support a number of cruisers, not all of them pretty girls in bikinis, simply by watching their videos and giving them a “Like” at the end. I’m not rich enough to give them money.
Other people, who can afford it, help them to afford the costs involved in producing the videos and there are many costs. Some also donate to repairs to keep the show afloat. I suspect that these Patreons enjoy the show like others might enjoy a movie or a day at the cricket (or whatever floats your boat where you live).
The Vimeo subscribers probably pay the extra so that the ridiculous censorship rules don’t impose pixelation on somebody’s boobs or bum. The world is a crazy place full of people who go berserk at the sight of a nipple - apparently.
