Hands down, Capt. Nancy Blackett, whose sailing skills and general approach to life we should all emulate.

Well said!

Based on the OP I assumed the latter.
Either or Stu....

It's a fun post! I can't believe how many celebs are being named! Some of them I just simply didn't recall until this post.. Walt Disney for one..

Others- I had no idea they were into sailing... Like Lady Gaga? Lol

Very cool responses from all!

Who's your favorite Celebrity Sailor

Sailing in Coecles Harbor last year we came across Jimmy Buffet's gorgeous, deep red hulled Morris 36. "Music" was her name and I had a new appreciation for Jimmy.

Re: Who's your favorite Celebrity Sailor

Anybody mention Buckminster Fuller. His book, Intuition, shows him at the helm of a Morgan 41 of the same name.

"Again and again
Step by step
Intuition open the doors...
Toward the physical and metaphysical
success
Of all humanity.
And because its design
Permits humanity to live anywhere
Around our planet's watery mantle
And because this sailing craft
We are now to launch
Is the epitome of design competence
We herewith give
To this world-around dwellable
High-seas sailing craft
The name --INTUITION."
from the cover of his book by the same name.

Re: Who's your favorite Celebrity Sailor

I agree with Steady Hand-- Jack London. His non-fiction account "The Cruise of the Snark" is a sailing classic detailing the building and sailing of the Snark which he sailed to the South Pacific. London was a lifelong sailor as well as one of the great American writers who has been sadly forgotten by generations of mind-numbed readers who confuse detective novels, science fiction, sappy historical novels and romance tripe with true literature. Good luck and good reading.

Re: Who's your favorite Celebrity Sailor

I already posted but I have to add Farley Mowatt. I don't even know if he was an avid sailor, but his book "The Boat Who Wouldn't Float" made me want to get out there and have lots of fun/misadventures.

How about Award Winning Australian Actor (NOT the American Murderer of the same name), Mark Jensen?

Well, if they hadn't included the Edmund Fitzgerald, there would have been room for it. I'm a big LIghtfoot fan, and I love that song, but the ill fate of a huge stinkpot freighter has nothing to do with sailing. If the list MUST include a song about a lost vessel, Bob Seeger's "Ship of Fools" would be more appropriate, IMHO.

Good catch...
He changed the song quite a bit, the chorus is his alone, words and music, and it's what makes it a great song. Still said "I was given a gem, and cut and polished it." It is one of my favorites, sailing or not.

As long as we're hijacking, Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic" is another great one
