We were anchored in the lovely harbor of Jewell Island in Casco Bay last month, along with maybe 12 other boats, a mix of sail and power. Everyone is quietly enjoying the awesome beauty of a wild island in Maine
, having a cocktail maybe and fixing dinner. . . . when a group of campers (come off of two power boats and a sailboat rafted up nearby) decides how fun it would be to start lighting
M80s and tossing them off the cliff toward the harbor. (!) What unspeakable jackasses. We hauled anchor
and moved ourselves to nearby Cliff Island.
