Re: Whats the RULES!!

Well clearly NONE of you have ever varnished anything or you would have absolutely concluded that the most important rule was my #2.
Oh and Sailorboy's are good too, especially #5

Re: Whats the RULES!!

Rule # 1 Stay on the boat while underway.

Sitting down to pee makes perfect sense sometimes, unless you're brainwashed into thinking that manly men must never sit to pee. I love having the option of peeing from either position. Nobody has perfect aim when the boat is bouncing around.

I feel so much safer peeing off the back of my catamaran now that I have a large solar frame to lean on.

Do people sit down and pee off the side?

Re: Whats the RULES!!

Two:

1. One hand for yourself, one for the boat.

2. When I ask you to do something, please do it right away. Then you can ask all the questions you want.

I've seen it done... by women who couldn't bear the thought of going below and risking hurling... which is why I have a dedicated special padded bucket for the ladies.... but perhaps we digress.........

No unknown time limits. "I thought we'd be back for 5 o'clock, I have to be blah, blah, blah, blah."

Re: Whats the RULES!!

We had a first step rule. If you are on or the closest to the companionway you are considered on the first step. The person on the first step is responsible for providing food or beverages to any that request it (within reason).

This keeps people from having to climb all over each other in the cockpit to get something from the galley. Probably not necessary on much larger boats, but was always appreciated on our 30 footer.

Related Rule: No schedules aboard (most dangerous thing to have on a boat).

Re: Whats the RULES!!

Not all really rules but some good clarifications we would make to newbies.

-No pooping in the head while at dock.

-The louder I speak means the faster you move

-If someone yells DUCK we don't mean water foul

-No boat gifts (for whatever reason sometimes, people feel compelled to bring "aquatic type presents" as a thank you for taking them sailing) space is limited and I probably don't want it anyways.

-People that aren't regulars and/or boat people need to ask before going on the foredeck

-If you feel sick then ask to steer

-and the most important: Have fun! or we will make you

Pump the head 20 times after the poop disappears.

I have always been interested in Pacific WW2 histories as I grew up in New Guinea and had US Army dumps all around the island.
As the US Navy had the "no alcohol rule" on their ships, the bars were installed on pontoons next to the ships. Men had no problem getting rid of surplus beer. But there was no provivision for the females that were present.
Solution: Females were haging over the water while a galant male held their outstretched arm. Seems it was never a problem.

Absolutely, couldn't agree more. Actually, didn't even get on the boat.....and it was very good I did not.
I was supposed to move the boat south from Annapolis to Jacksonville with a friend with the owners onboard. I opted out. That rule was a good idea of what was to follow.
A good friend helps you move, a really good friend helps you move bodies....my friend would have balked at the later.

We’ve got the same rule. Ensures no dookie or pee left in the hoses.
