What to bring for entertainment?

We have a few books as well as DVD's, computer, a 12v TV/DVD player plus a travel packaged Vollyball and also Badmitton sets in case we ever find a beach. Two bicycles to explorer places, also board games, cards and computer chess as well as a small chess board. We also do Tai Chi and Chi Kung for exercise.

Nobody has mentioned beach toys. A bocce set, redneck golf, and take a sand wedge and a couple of golf balls.

I have an Ipod with some music, but primary reason is for audio books. I can keep a watch out, and not wreck night vision, whilst still "reading" a good book.

Storage of hundreds of books is small, and light.

Best of all, it prevents me speed reading my way through a library in nothing flat.

After choking for a few minutes we asked for a clarification and they told us they were blowing up their kayaks.

If your plans are to be gone a while with the 4 kids, something to consider is a communal guitar and/or some pipe flutes, harmonicas etc.

The Sailing life can inspire the hidden musician in all of us and while you run the risk of dealing with some painful notes for a while, being able to play a musical instrument and join a campfire jam with the locals is a fantastic way to make friends

- 2 laptops
- external hard drive with tons of movies / music
- stereo in cabin and cockpit
- 17" flat tv on a swingarm
- PS2
- tons of books

I couldn't imagine being bored on the boat; there is so much crap to do all the time it's insane.

Star atlas or sky chart to learn the constellations on those starry starry nights.
Fishing gear including cast net it's always fun to see what might turn up in them.

OP talked about 4 kids and maybe doing some "trading." I could imagine my kid who starts getting stir crazy after 6 hours on a but much less 30 days.

I met a lady who was making shell jewelry and selling it at stop overs. That got me to thinking about knot tying (macrame) knitting and crocheting.

These crafting skills take a lot of time, are very creative and can be sold at ports of call.

Hey if you've got the child labor, you may as well use it - How about sewing some Nike's together as well?

I also have a telescope which I will take with me, but it's no good on a boat. Too much movement to focus on any planet or galaxie. It'll be a beach side item for sure. On the thread of craft work, the wife and I both do many different crafts. Leather, carving, knot work. She does Tatting, which is making lace collars/doilies etc. We are also massage therapist and will be taking our tables for those who may have a sore muscle or back after a stint at sea.
