Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.

Einstein

How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.

My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.

Both Lincoln and I love the second one because it's such an couth and classy way to totally destroy someone

I started drifting away from Heinlein when I hit forty. By the time I was fifty, he was a minor cause of eye rolling.

During this thread, I had to look at other posts to remember how his name is spelled.

Sorry to see you got bored and stopped reading my definition at the word "works", Jammer6.

Let me know when you need the money (bail)

I've found that letting people finish sentences just needlessly complicates the issues.

If my neighbors were home they would be calling for the men in white coats as a response to my laughing hilariously at the latest posts in this thread. Mr. Troup I especially appreciated your allusion to Doug Adams work with the "telephone sanitizer" comment.
You guys are great(when you're not arguing).

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

Specialization is for insects.

I can honestly say I've done all of them, except for two. (although, having put myself in dangers way more than once, could have easily done one of the remaining two without even trying)

Thinking about it, I didn't do him justice: more than anything he was a phenomenal motivator. Not in the usual "ra ra" coach sense; quite the reverse:

Simply by being such a clearly gifted judge of people, who went on to show those same people the deepest respect of all, buy leaving them to 'get on with it', trusting they would do 'it' OK, and that if they needed him, they would come and get him. Exact opposite of a micromanager.

And because they believed in him, they believed him, and found that they COULD in fact do what was needed ... every bit as well has he might have hoped, if not better.

It's not the only valid leadership style, but it does work well for really long and hard challenges. Not surprisingly, he cut his teeth long-distance offshore racing.

I felt exactly that same way. The Sea of Cortez is absolutely magical.

Damn. Now y'all tell me.

The nearest I ever got was arriving at Los Mochis at midnight, sleeping on the floor in the bus station for a few hours, then doing several laps of what seemed like the entire town, on foot, in the pre-dawn, trying to find the undisclosed unmarked location from which the bus for El Fuerte would soon leave

... where we were to spend a few days before joining other (train-mad) family members on the CHEPE train to Chihuahua (stopping and staying at the bottom of one of the deepest canyons on the way - and that whole trip also, to be honest, was absolutely magical)

I thought Mexico would be a wonderful place to visit, but it far exceeded my expectations, mostly.
