What fish is this?

Hey folks,

We were sailing ~150nm offshore north of the Marquesas when we snagged this strange fish on one of the trolling poles. We were going about 8kts at the time.

No one on board could identify it. Never heard of anyone catching anything like this on blue water while trolling either.

Any leads on what it is? Almost looks like a Trevally species.

Oh, and welcome neighbor! Just looked at your blog. Seems like you've recently finished an impressive voyage. Nice.

I did not see your fish in my old 1985 reprint ofGrant's Guide to Fishes. I hope someone else can help you.

Both FishBase and Wikipedia note a risk from ciguatera. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almaco_jack

Re: What fish is this?

It is a jack. The stripe appears when they are feeding or showing distress.
