Classic mistake; should have rescued the dog second as the dog would still have been happy to see him.

It's only funny because she didn't die.

LOL. Plus the dog would let him get another boat.

Re: Well at least he went back for the wife

There's a whole lot we don't know here. How about she asks him to save their beloved pet first? She was afloat, though fouled on the steering gear somehow.

This isn't as crazy as you might think at first look. I know a woman who I really think would have said that....in a flash!

People make emotionally based decisions sometimes that are unwise.

Yup, got that right.

We'd be breaking out the cross and the nine inch nails if she'd died.

Yeah, so do I. Then (assuming I've managed to keep some part of my head...) I'm floating there having a ridiculous argument with myself: argue with her? Force her ashore, and hope I can win the argument that creates on it's merits later? Or save the damn dog? Not to mention that I'm never getting laid again if I force her ashore and the damn dog dies. What if we're not picked up right away? Then I'm shipwrecked on an island with a woman who's never going to speak to me again because I killed the dog...

I'm sure he did it because she could fend for herself

Re: Well at least he went back for the wife

Well...I guess it's true then. If you lock your wife and your dog in a trunk of your car and open it an hour later, guess which one is glad to see you?
Chances are after he rescued his wife he may have wanted to put her back after an hour of tongue lashing.

Sounds like a dick reporter sensationalizing an otherwise boring story. The wife was probably fine and the dog was probably being a PITA. Get the dog on the beach, and start gathering what you need to get off the boat ( including the wife) without the hassle of the dog.

Re: Well at least he went back for the wife

my partner is a south African and I can tell you first hand the reason he got the dog first was because she would read him his life story if he had gone anywhere near here until she cooled down a bit
