Good luck in the Bahamas with Erika moving through. I'm looking forward to getting wet there soon, so keep the underwater pics coming Oceangirl.
I was looking through some old photos to share to get in the spirit

Loving these otherworldly shots. The way in which the fresh water of the great lakes preserves these items is extraordinary. I have done some diving in Canadian lakes, enough to have a sudden shock or two when crossing unexpectedly into meltwater lurking at the bottom… Are there equally steep thermoclines in the Great Lakes?

I like to think it's their curiosity. It just may be for some like dog snappers, hogfish or trunkfish. Groupers are shy, but often perch on the bottom to watch you, sitting so still that they're hard to see.
Others turn to make themselves bigger with fins out to look like undesirable prey, like hamlets and lionfish.
Still others come close as cleaner fish when juveniles like angelfish, territorial like drums, or will nip your camera if you're on their reef like damselfish!
Here are a few from the S Carib~

Great fish "poses". Evidence of long experience!

On Isle Royale this weekend the thermocline was at 10 ft and went from 54 F to 41 F...ice cream headache for my buddy in a wet suit.
No thermocline in the winter and we have observed the ice in the pressure ridges in Lake Superior over 100 ft deep. Will post some ice diving shots later.

Re: Underwater Photography
I'm craving ice at the moment after a long hot walk for provisions.
Only the sort I want is in a cold drink .
LakeSuperior, you have my respect for tackling ice when diving! I would love to see shots.
Off for a dive to cool off.

Re: Underwater Photography
I took these photos a few years ago. They were taken in the pressure ridges off the Keweenaw Peninsula in Lake Superior.

Amazing shots!
Gives me goosebumps just looking at them though.

Wow. Great shots. If I am ever in that area would love to look you up and see if you want to splash, winter or summer… Have always wanted to ice dive, though most particularly in Greenland or similar, but the Lakes are certainly an adventure I would relish

Will wait to hear from you when you get to Lake Superior. It's getting tougher to find dive partners up here.

Re: Underwater Photography
Another sea urchin, this one the remnants of someone's supper. The bottom of the shell has been cracked off and the gonads removed, possibly by one of the crabs I photographed earlier. Life is tough at the lower links of the food chain:

Re: Underwater Photography
Urchins and soft corals :-) this was taken in the Marina ( Emerald Bay). This side of the Marina has no electricity and no vessels.
