Spot on! Many thanks. I will go back and change the label. A blenny is a perfect match. It bothered me that I could find no mention of the white tufts reading about gobies.

I can't find what species this is though, or even what family. The colouring is very similar to Salarias fasciatus, but these are not listed in the Med. Head shape is also different.

I am finding the classification confusing in general. Blennies sometimes belong to the family Blenniidae, sometimes the suborder Blennioidei (with a completely different family name) and sometimes to both.

Do they make this up as they go along?

Yep, these are the dives you don't forget .

My heart rate always skyrocketed seeing sharks even if they were only pretty harmless reef sharks (my toes felt terrifyingly vulnerable when I was without fins and on my own), but they enthrall me, unlike jellyfish I hate having as company. Sharks are majestic animals.

One wonderful thing about the Med is that I have no qualms swimming at dawn or dusk. I would never have done this in open water in Australia except for the briefest jumps in and out.

I now can't wait to be seeing fish like that again. Almost all the ones here have ADHD .

That spidery looking crab (?) next to the black sea urchin has the most beautiful miniature purple claws. Details like this are completely missed with the naked eye.

Do you know what the black egg-like objects were in the white sea urchin?

That is a Pederson cleaner Shrimp that I'd lured out by offering my fingers to clean. They are very pretty in their coloration and not all shy once you manage to find one.

I confess I am now eating my words . I have started looking closely and I am seeing all sorts of wonderful things.

I concentrated on sea urchins today. Just looking at the photos now.

Lighting.... lots of lighting makes a HUGE difference. I mounted some extensions today which enabled me to phograph with a more natural light from above and didn't seem to scare the fish as much.

One more thing, that fishing shot was taken at 3-4 meters depth using a Gopro. It's didn't look like anything from directly overhead. I'm sure you already know this, but for others... You need to go directly down to the bottom when snorkeling (with a weight belt), and cruise along the bottom very slowly for 30 seconds or so and look for the opportunities.
