TV after digital switch

For those of you who have TVs on board, what will you do after all US markets go to digital? Will you connect a converter box? Or switch to satellite TV like Dish Network?

We have a dish and "follow me" system, but since we will only be on the boat sporadically starting this summer, I am loathe to pay a monthly subscription. Has anyone already hooked up a converter box? Is it much more difficult than hooking one up to a home-based TV?

The only difference from hooking one up at home would be if you use a 12 volt tv now. I don't think any of the converter boxes operate on 12 volts so you would have to run your inverter.

This digital to analog converter box runs off 12 volt DC and draws 4.5 watts maximum. I would imagine there are others.

DTVs have gotten so cheap, in sizes suited for or onboard, take the box money and apply it to a flat screen. You will also free up some space.

Yes, go to a HD TV or buy a HD VCR to connect to the TV. Personally, I am going to buy a HD TV with a built in DVD.

I can get a 12 volt digital TV with DVD in built - flat screen and about 15 inch screen for 399 Australian (which is about 20 cents US at the current exchange rate - actually its about 250 US) have one on order for the new boat

I bought a 13-inch dTV/DVD along with a pivot wall (bulkhead) bracket from 12 Volt Travel Color Flat Panel LCD TV's - Appliances - Coffee Makers - Heaters - Refrigerators - Air Compressors - Power Supply and love it!
