You are a great group.
I posted this thread originally just to see if the majority of seafarers would tolerate someone sailing nude, although I already knew some did it. I wanted a feel for the numbers. Your response has been great. Not only have you shown it is acceptable in most cases, but even those who would not indulge themselves were not overly vocal about it. Then we find that many more than I suspected also sail nude themselves. I think you for the great response and especially your great attitude about it.
You are a great bunch for sure.

Connemara- I feel your pain my friend. I also draw much laughter from my wife.
Maybe to have made it really good you could have heavly smeared sun block over the little admiral.

Goshea- Thanks for the update on the Pacifica area. I have been through there one time and in the Devils slide area there is much construction going on. I don't know if it's possible to even get to that beach now.

Scotty- I've never been there but have heard of Pinetree. Saw them on the AANR site.

It all comes down to how much you have to offer!

Most sailors I know Sailed naked when weather and circumstances permitted, and also at anchor, swam around their boat etc, but although we all did it, we didn't sort of tell everyone as we guessed outsiders wouldn't understand how we felt about the freedom of it. I did it more than my wife as she's a more cautious soul. We did have some funny situations arise, Literally. Natureboy

Well, I gotta tell ya from my nude beach days. I ran into many more friends there than would ever admit it publicly. What I have trouble understanding is peoples reluctance to talk about likeing this kind of freedom.
Any insight on this?

Our boat has a 'topless' policy. Works out OK so far, (insert sleazy laughter here).

Topless policy

I just picked these up so there won't be any misunderstanding what the policy is on board.

I may make a sign for my dock step...
"Beyond this point you may encounter nudity"

A friend of mine has one over his front door that says, "Clothing Optional".

Shu, I guess it's a throwback to the Victorian era where people were tought that it was somehow against religion/God to display ones body even in the bedroom. How sick can you get. To me if we were made in Gods image how could it be so wrong? I get great pleasure, and love looking at a beautiful naked person, male or female, it's a wonderful work of art, and pleasure, as is any animal, tree etc. If we get get our feelings disturbed in a very pleasant way thats as it should be, thats nature and long may it last! It's so great to be out sailing and being free, somehow the two go together. Natureboy

I'm with you on this. The body is nothing to be ashamed of. Our ancient ancestors invented clothes to protect them from the elements, not as an act of modesty. In the same vein this is why animals have body coverings like fur.
We were born nude, were we not?

I'm reminded of a quote from somewhere.

Forgive me for paraphrasing, it's been a long time since I heard it.

"What's wrong with nudity? You're born naked and you die naked."
"People don't usually die naked."
"You do if you plan it right."

Edit: ok, apparently the Drew Carey Show

real quote to follow:
Lewis Kiniski: I don't see what the big deal is. You're born naked and you die naked.
The Councilman: You don't die naked.
Lewis Kiniski: You do if you plan it right.

thanks IMDB
