Hi Mark,
I took a look at free FTPs and there is a ton available. Thought I'd short circuit the search and ask which one you use, and if there are any you wish you'd got onto but maybe now it's too much bother to change?

PS. The dinghy dock at Las Brisas is still crap.

Sorry I should have said: Core FTP LE - its FREE!
Free FTP client, secure file transfer software

As a web page builder/editor etc I hand code but there is available on the net the very old Microsoft Frontpage Express (Free) downloadable off Frontpage Express download and tutorials
But you will need to run it in Compatability Mode for newer PC computers. If you cant get it to run then...
another program that was free that I liked was Trillian but I cant find a link to it now... it seems to be all Instant Messenger stuff

Download.com must have a whole lot of simple editors that can get you started, then you just cut and paste code

Plenty of free website templates on the net too.

Yes, that's one of my top-of-list annoyances too (oversized pics). Some inlined blogs (entire life in one long winded, single post) have crashed my browser/machine.

I wonder what VirtualVagabond is using, in terms of picture dimensions?

Most folks are still at 1280px or less resolution, and a surprising number of folks are still stuck at 1024px. So, I generally size my pics to 900px (width) or less, and many times only 700 px (depends on content). If I really want to show the detail, I'll go larger, but that's only for the special, rare pics. Also, Jpegs generally are smaller than pngs, and load faster. B&W photos load faster than anything else.

Most blogs will let you email your pages, which can be done without admin access or log-in, of course. (They give you a special email like sgherissl_sjf323ss@tumblr.com that ends up being (sorta) like the password.)

Re: The Perfect Blog/Website Platform

I suspect you could update your pages with SSB/HF email, at least for text-only stuff. Don't know if that would violate any TOS though.

You can format email with HTML, so it's a nice way to go. It's the only way I post to tumblr, because tumblr gave me a submission email by default, in the welcome package they sent me. On Wordpress, you have to select an option to turn "email posting" on.

Re: The Perfect Blog/Website Platform

Squarespace has email posting as well. You can also attach images, if you choose, and they will be auto-resized and placed below your text.

Re: The Perfect Blog/Website Platform

For an editor, I've been using a barebones free program called CuteHTML for over 10 years. Very simple, and awesome. I started using it when I built websites and I've copied it onto every computer I've had. It isn't supported anymore but you can still find it to download.

Another easy (and free) option is Notepad++, which I've used to fiddle with some code here and there and it seems like a really good and basic product.
