As a cruiser, who kiteboards, I enjoy reading the blogs of other kiter-cruisers. Anyone have any recommendations? Not kiting blogs, or cruising blogs, but kiteboarders who cruise (and take pics/blog about it).

I'll start with one of my favorites, these are diver-kiter-cruisers and I've linked to their post on the Marshall's (our intended destination this year):

curious..
what do you use to mount your camera to kite? (can i assume u use a gopro?)
also are you launching of the boat or dinghy? (i'd love to know your methods)

/just took up kiteboarding.....and the cruising lifestyle.

Hi!
We are sailing around on our little boat and my boyfriend kite surfs and SUPs. So far we've passed through Grenada, Union Island, Bonaire and Columbia, getting some pretty good kiting along the way.

My blog is not predominantly kite/cruising centred but I always post about kite spots if we pass through them, with pics and wind info if I have time. Might be worth keeping one eye on

I'm always surprised by how few kite surfers there are in the cruising world. IMO, the two go hand in hand.

I kited a lot in SF before we left but the left coast from San Diego to Panama has been a kiting desert. I cant wait to get back into the carib where there is real wind. Estrellita 5.10b (or something like that) blog about kiting.

You mean with younger cruisers? It doesn't surprise me, given the age of many cruisers, the risk, and the physical demands of living on the hook and tending ship.

I've always been interested, after seeing a guy shreddin' in the Cape Lookout bight. I'm only 41 but already I feel like it is a little more impact than I want to deal with on the joints, back, etc. But there was that back surgery a few mos ago.

IT's also more crap to buy and stow. Doubt a decent rig is cheap - is it?

How many over 40 or 50 kiters are there? We'll see who reads the thread....

I do have a stunt kite. And a SUP. Maybe I can rig something up

I am a 58 yr old kiter-sailor...been kiting 10 years...it's a great complimentary activity. Can be tough on the body if you play hard.

I'm an over 50 kiter, the gear was all second hand. Got a board, bar, lines, kite, bag and pump for 450 Euros. Been doing it 5 months now, totally hooked, despite almost killing myself into a palm tree, 2x ct scans, knocked out cold, took a month for the headaches to go away. Still worth it.

Im 48 and have been doing it 6 years or so. Lots of bumps and sores in the beginning - it was a tough sport for me to learn. But its much easier now. Definitely get used kit. Lots of punters give it up early. You probably want 2 or 3 kites to deal with different wind strenghts. It'll cost about $2k all told. You can mess around with the trainer and sup, but its not the real thing. However, if you come in with board skills and kite skills, you are 1/2 way there.

yeah, definately buy second hand...and strongly recommend at least safety lesson just so you know how to control and de-power the kite when necessary.
