Don't forget the third meet up at the flower Gardens, anyone with experience with the best time to go for moorings availability, please let us know. I think Brian is also checking with the park.
Even though I can only free dive due to my surgeries, I'll have my camera ready for underwater photography and will take some glamor shots of the CF boats.

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

I am in Kemah, but was thinking that I would sail down to Galveston for it. I thought we might have a couple of boats go out for the daysail. Happy to take some. What are the dates ya'll are thinking of again???

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

I love the Matagorda Bay area, but the Galveston Bay-Clear Lake has more activities, bars, and etc for an easier meetup. May's cruises are already filling up with planned trips to Port A and Offatts Bayou. The Quickie Guides are some excellent ideas for side trips if interested.

I was thinking more along the lines of an anchorage, where the masses can't go, rather than where they can.

So what's the thinking about Galveston? Marina, anchorage? Where?

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

If we did Galveston Yacht Basin, people could pick to anchor or get a slip. There is a small area you could anchor outside the marina. Down side is needing to cab to go anywhere, not too much within walking distance. Upside is we could sail in the gulf instead of the bay (for some that may be a downside?)

Teacup is a bit rolly. If we were down there I'd opt for the yacht basin. There's baffle too but that's not much better.

I wasn't planning that type of gathering, I was thinking restaurant and a day sail on one or 2 boats if the weather cooperates. This based on doing it in the winter, say late Feb.

If we are more interested in anchoring out, later on like April would be cool. And if I was choosing the Anchorage I'd go for Offats Bayou. Those that prefer a slip could use Moody's, the rest of us could anchor right by there. Moody Gardens and Sand Bar are both there for dinner/drinks and protection can be had from any wind.

I personally like Teacup, but I know others don't. Another idea is we could meet at fisherman's wharf, you can tie up boats there as well.

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

I would do a daysail here in galveston but everyone would pass me up. Flickas are not fast, about 5 or six knots but will go almost indefinately. So i would do a out of the harbor an down the length of galveston off the beach an back to say fishermans warf for clam chowder an white wine or irish coffee. I would even burn some dogs an burgers if i could get a general head count, let me know. I also talked to thearina an they offered slips for dollar an half foot but needed a date to firm up the count pluss trailer boats can drop in here easily at the ramp by the bait house an fuel is here also
Just let me know what you all decide.
Have a good one,

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

Weather permitting, we will sail up. If the weather is too unpleasant to go offshore, we will drive up. Either way, we are looking forward to it.

Either way, I want a sail on the Flicka!
