Subwing - New Toy for Sailboats

Subwing

Basically a wing for "flying" under water behind the sailboat.
Looks like loads of fun!

Tow sleds are an old idea, but Subwing's tweak on the idea allows you to spin easily.

Used Scuba Dive Gear - Underwater Tow Sled

I have a hard enough time clearing every few feet when scuba diving. That thing would blow my sinuses wide open. Lucky you guys who don't have those issues.

I reached the point where I had to ascend very slowly or I'd get a bad headache and sometimes my sinuses would bleed. Went to the doctor, said my sinuses had completely closed up due to repeated sinus infections. They dremel tooled out some nice big windows. Made a huge difference in diving and in sinus infections/headaches.

My dive instructor sometimes had big sinus problems diving. Turned out he had a polyp that sometimes flopped over the right way and blocked the opening. Removal of polyp removed problem.

Been there on all of that. I got my divemaster through padi so I worked with students a lot, chasing them up and down and trashing my face in the process. Had some really nasty stuff happen. Went and saw an ENT, and he went in with the camera on the wand and showed me all my ostyas (or whatever those holes are called) and my tube openings.

I have to take a nasal steroid every day for the rest of my life if I want to keep diving. Small price to pay. Stuff is cheap enough, one shot up each nostril every day, has kept me from needing surgery and diving doesn't hurt anymore.

Re: Subwing - New Toy for Sailboats

What happens if one of them snags on a rock or coral head?

I’m worried about my head hitting one of those.

Basically only do it in good visibility or stay on surface

Looks really fun. I'm curious if it is easy to maneuver when under water.

Re: Subwing - New Toy for Sailboats

so we only used it once. Would have used it more but the sailing school kept getting in the way. Tie your shorts well! And make sure you're not fogged up. It was hard to see and there were coral heads around so I mainly stayed at the surface.

It is hard to dive down, at least with my body size and grip strength. Barrel rolls were easy and fun. I used a mask without snorkel as I was worried about the drag of it. The dinghy with 9.9hp was plenty powerful enough. It was worth $180
