pirate Re: spot the boatman!

News just got worse.. a new shaft was fitted by Kalaka B/yard Malta.. Frank of Nauticmobil the German engine god measured it and read 3.0.. coupler reads 3.3.. should have been spotted by Whitesails, Malta when they alledgedly took out and serviced the gearbox.. which Frank reckons nothing appeared to have been done.. and various threads were bugga'd resulting in the loss of oil..
So a new coupler goes onto the bill.. the only good guy I've had work on the boat was my man in Mazaro da Vello, Scicly.. do I ever wish I'd asked him to go over the whole engine..
Still.. I hear only good things about Frank from all over.. and he's German.. best damn car makers so if he's half as good I'll be well pleased.. watched him work today.. no messing.. straight in there and attacked it.. no ******** talk.. like the Dutch tosser who charges you for listening..

He wont be half as good Phil....... he will just be what the Dr ordered.

My Autoclave popped its clogs this morning........

My X ray unit threw a wobbler on Saturday and the server choked on an upgrade about 10 minutes ago.....

Today is 3K behind.

On the bright side, soon be dead!

Christy, i hate those ignoramisususes who messed with your boat. I hope Frank pulls off one of his miracles.

Why is it always the same story -- some flaky criminal mechanic blowing smoke up an arse?

@Salty,

It's the same the world over. I just heard myself saying to a shipwright/cruiser, " you sure are eager to spend other people's money for them." He was hinting that he could do another job for some DIY friends.

Re: spot the boatman!

I had something similar happen to me. Trusted a mechanic based on my YY and his rep to commission me ngin system after a winter on the hard and he messed up the transmission by forgetting fluid. Almost sank me. 1993

Forgot to add that I took full resp. though. Should have inspected. YY Manager and mechanic were terrified I would sue, but I let it pass. Never trust anyone EVER. Better yet NEVER LET ANYONE EVER WORK ON YER BOAT! I be naive.

Re: spot the boatman!

A company I worked for surveyed their problem reports and found that about 90% of the problems were solved by about 10% of their technical/engineering staff. I believe that it is probably about the same ratio for doctors, mechanics and marine technicians.

Like they say, the harder you work the luckier you get.

It's the things that I don't check regularly that bite me. (Except these damn fleas)

Re: spot the boatman!

Reminds me of why I so much rather do it myself.

Yep, I stuff a bit here and there but I reckon it only about 10% of the time and as each year goes past, that figure goes down as one learns from ones own mistakes. And sure, it sometimes takes longer but I never waiting for a tradie just to turn up.

And at least I know who to blame .

Remember Boatie, one day in the future, today will just be another one of the "good old days"
