pirate Re: spot the boatman!

So... here I am sat at the Corb Mari Cafe in RCNP Mallorca.. sipping a Cafe con Leche and Soberano...
Left Marina Capitana late Sunday evening as the forecast for Monday gave N winds 12-19kph.. rounded the Cabo and found the Mistral had decided to hang around a bit and faced 2-3metre sea's and winds of F5-6.. Yuck.. so we bounced on.. I've started so I'll finish attitude.. confirmed she's a wet boat and a dodger is definitely top of the list..
Tuesday was much nicer.. sunny and lightish winds so banged the engine on and kept the speed up.. then bugga me if the next Mistral did not hit early... Tuesday night saw F7-8 and messey sea's.. 2-4 metres depending on the direction.. double reefed the main and genoa then watched in disgust as the plastic slides started doing an impersonation of the Hulk transforming.. shirt buttons popping.. the only one intact was the top metal slide.. the rest.. gornded.. so that was heaving to outa the window for starters.. running before under reefed genny was a no no as I was less than 100 miles of N. Africa.. so furled and laid ahull for 36hrs.. steel boats have a unique 'Boom' when a breaker hits..
So.. around 6am Thursday morning it had eased enough to hit the starter and make way again.. still had wind but to far fwd to be any use with only a genoa so it was motor and hope the fuel lasted..
Finally the wind went N and I let out the genoa, killed the engine and sailed a while.. goal Ibiza.. till it clicked.. Mallorca was closer..
So 270 was changed to due N and anchored around 1-30am.
Next morning upped anchor and headed for Palma.. and the wind came.. F5 by the time we reached Palma.. called RCNP..full.. Club de Mar.. full.. BUGGA>>
So.. got in the queue for fuel.. poodling around the harbour dodging boats waiting my turn and damned if the wheel didn't come off..
I **** myself.. a first.. ARRGGHHHHH
Seems the nut was brass and slowly had worn out the threads on the stainless shaft.. held it in place as my turn for gas came up.. fueled then kinda got a few turns on so vacated the fuel dock before folk started screaming at me.. man it was busy..
Fridays are **** days to arrive.. charters ending etc..
Anyway.. wheel fell off again so made for the only open bit along the Promenade.. tied up then started hiking to find an appropriate nut.. 2km one way.. then 3 km the other.. finally found something.. got back to the boat to find 2 cops standing there with a filled out form for a 600 euro fine... Oh ****..
So blagged like carzy and wheedled another half hour outa them.. called RCNP and found they had some cancelations due to the winds so a spot was free.. The gods were finally smiling on me.. miserable bastards.. took bludi long enough
Anyway.. new slides on the main.. a nut of sorts on the wheel.(seems its a unique thread.. duhh) and the laundrys on the go as I type.. life is good again.. till Monday.. then the string and super glue special sets off again.. hopefully this time Cartegena..

Damn Boatie, Namaste is our favorite Indian restaurant! Why'd you have to go & get my mouth watering when I won't get there for another week or so?

Re: spot the boatman!

Congrats Boaty on a lovely adventure sail. Sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. At least the dry bits anyway.
