Atoll suggested cracking the hoses at the ram and cranking the wheel one way then the other till clear fluid ran.. which is what I did.. thought it had worked but the Sirocco 4 days back proved me wrong

when you bled it ,was the ram in the hard over position as described,ie with no oil in the hard over side when you commenced turning the helm to bleed?

just cracking the fittings is not enough as there is the possibility of air trapped in the ram cylinder.

FWIW, if you have steering with no stops or no stop in one direction of turn, it could be a burr on your balls or the seat of the check valve in the steering wheel pump allowing fluid to bypass the check valve. I had that and bought new expensive $10 each perfect steel balls for the check valve and rebled the system, taking the ram off and laying it low to get all the air out at the helm. Good luck, amigo.

With a tiller... you need to move your arm all the way over and back while steering and do this all the time, which is tiring and highly annoying when trying to drink rum.

p.s. Atoll got the right procedure. I also have to pressurize my reservoir with air but it even works without that, which I discovered after being ignorant about the air valve for 6 years...

I usually just drape a leg over the tiller so I can have a rum in my right and a sammidge in my left. Looks styling too.

Just spoke with Boatie.

Seems the Mechanics did not strip and flush the unit, or replace the oil. 10 miles out he turned around and went back with a failing unit.

He is now committed to flying back to Portugal and then onto pick up his delivery boat.

His mood is.......... 'irritated'

Sigh.
