Re: Short sailing video to share with CF community

good job Jimbo...I liked it a lot. I hope more people put these on. It's very inspirational. Is there a site that teaches a person how to do this and with what equipment?

Re: Short sailing video to share with CF community

I used Windows Movie Maker to edit all the footage. It took one evening to learn how to use the software and make the video. It is a free download from Mr B. Gates . There are tutorials around but the process is fairly intuitive with cuts, pastes and a few features.

For filming, we use a GoPro Hero - HD, waterproof and very robust. We just bought another one along with the 3-D kit, so I want to experiment now with 3-D clips and the KAP kite.

An example of KAP by others, not us, is like this stuff...

I see there are a few different editions...outdoor, motorsport, surf. Looks like a learning curve for sure. But for $299, it's a deal.

Re: Short sailing video to share with CF community

Celestial Sailor, it depends on what you want from it, but we were better off buying the $200 version (GoPro Hero). The little extra resolution for the $300 GoPro Hero2 is not worth the extra 50%. The $200 model is still HD. The money saved there was spent on other accessories like additional attachments to mount the camera around the boat and the 3D kit.

I see in April they will have a wifi remote control for the camera which will be very useful. We will be able to attach the camera to the top of the mast or hanging by a KAP kite and then we can control it with the IPad in the cockpit.
