Sweet ,what was the water depth like on average? looks like fun,how long did it take to do the trip?..

Average was about 10ft. I'd caution anyone that runs through that channel to be extremely weary South of the bridge, in that clip you can see us passing a barge. We tried to stay as close to the barge as possible but since it was so narrow we did touch bottom 3 times (even with the 3.5 wing keel) luckily our speed pushed us through it. Anyone sailing around Pamlico should definitely have up to date NOAA maps / NAV systems. After pulling out of the channel we did come upon an unfortunate sailor that cut along the wrong side of a marker and was stuck (no more than 5 feet on the other side of the marker).

As far as the duration, we departed Washington NC at about 9AM and pulled into Oriental at around 6:30PM. Would loved to have sailed more but the wind just wasn't playing nicely. Spent the night in Oriental and then hopped over to Matthews Point just over an hour the next morning.

Nice video! Thanks for the info. We're heading in the opposite direction in about 12 days - from Beaufort to Hampton. Hope we have the same good weather!

Thin water for sure,I used to sail quite a bit in that area but its been ten yrs since I was sailing there last..We used to troll off the back of a hobie cat for Rock fish (striped bass)! Lots of good times crabbing,claming,flying kites...have fun...

OH one more thing, we (wife and I) are new to sailing. Can someone explain how often we should expect to see 2-3FT rollers inside of the protected Pamlico Sound? I have to be honest in saying that we weren't expecting that.

Its fairly common.. so is wind influenced 'Low waters'... I spent 6 days 'grounded at the town dock due to that.
Pamlico Sound is fairly open to the dominant winds as it runs NE-ish to SW-ish... enjoy the run to Beaufort/Morehead City...
