My wife and I will be staying at the brand new(opens Dec. 07) Barcelo Maya Palace Resort at the end of January for 7 days. It is a family trip as we are celebrating my mom's 70th birthday and this is what she wanted to do. From the photos it looks as though there may be some good snorkeling right in the bay that forms the well protected beach. This resort is just north of Akumal. Anyone with any direct knowledge about other good snorkeling spots and other points of interest, things not to be missed, etc. Of couse we plan on a visit to Tulum. Have no interest in golf. We are thinking of renting one vehicle just to have available so we have some type of independant transport. There will be 10 of us but we don't plan on doing everything together. The resort is all inclusive and they do have Hobie Cats and Sunfish so I will be spending a fair bit of time sailing. Have not been to this area before so it will be an all new experience. Any advice good or bad would be appreciated.

Hey Steve,

Would you mind if I crawled in one of your suitcases?

I did my Open Water certification with Dressel Divers in PDC. Had a ball!!! Good diving & great people. I would encourage you, if you are not allready certified, to at least take a guided "Intro Dive".

I have been trying to get back down there but stuff keeps getting in the way

Have fun!
