Recreational fishing in the BVI

Hi there, does anyone know if you need any type of license or permit to fish in the BVI. We're chartering a cat for 7 days in late may and considering trying trolling during our sails. We know we won't have a lot of (if any) luck, but we thought it would be fun to try. Any ideas if we need to secure anything other than our equipment?
Thank you!! Anne

Each person needs a license. Call the Department of Natural Resources on 284-468-3701.

You do need a license. I have purchased fishing licenses ahead of time using Last Stop Sports. I don't have any affiliation with them, but they have been very easy to use and it is convenient to have this accomplished before I travel to the BVIs. I simply get an e-mail copy of the license, print it and bring it with me.

Here is a link:

Might be cheaper to go through the Dept of Natural Resources, I just don't have experience with it.

Re: Recreational fishing in the BVI

I just returned from a week charter in the BVI over New Years and I too fished. Such a blast. My charter agency handled all of my paperwork for me. I filled out my application and emailed it to them, they handled everything for me. Worth asking. I just paid the fees when I got there. Caught a tarpon trolling the first day then tuna. All on a blue feathered squid looking lure. Tuna was the best I've ever tasted!!! Good luck!Click image for larger version

I think that might be a Bonito not a Tuna.

I've heard from several folks that if you bleed out a bonita, it's one of the best tasting fish on the planet. But I can't personally confirm that.
