Recommendations for Hawaii?

Hello all,

I've browsed the forum in the past and got a lot of great information from here and you seem like a great group so I figured I would come to you for some non sailing advice.

I will be in Hawaii (Oahu and Maui) with my wife this week and was wondering if any of you had recommendations for the visit. Good food, good bars, places to hang out etc.?

If any of you happen to be there I'll be happy to trade some drinks or food for advice. Or photos of your boat if you want, I'm a pretty decent photographer and I think photographing a boat would be fun.

Re: Recommendations for Hawaii?

Sorry I can't help. If you are a sailor then Hawaii Yacht Club at the Ala Wai Marina on Oahu is a great place. Not hard to find once you see all the boat masts at the West End of Waikiki. If you are a member of any other Yacht Club then you can talk your way in.

My favorite place on Maui is Lahaina Yacht Club but then again you need to be a member of another Yacht Club or a guest to get in. You might talk with some of the local boat owners there.

Have a great visit.

Depending what days you are on Oahu Transpac racers may be arriving good time to meet the boats at the pier. Both clubs Waikiki Yacht Club and HYC will be busy and if you have a card from a club you can get in.
Not sure what you are looking for in a bar but Dukes is good and has live entertainment Sundays around four.
Honolulu beer works has good beer.
Any of the Roys for a good piece of ahi.
I say get a car and spend some time on the North shore or Kailua beach.
If you get a little more specific about what kind of bars and restaurants I will give some more recommendations.

Oahu:
Agree on both yacht clubs; the upstairs bar at the HYC is great; say hi to Archie for me!
La Mer restaurant at the Halekulani Hotel is, in my opinion, the best restaurant on the Island (best Hotel, too!) for a special occaision:

La Mer, finest of 5 Star and 5 Diamond restaurants in Honolulu

Rent a car and drive around the Island and eat from a food truck...

Maui:

Play a round of golf! If you don't play walk a course; amazing views!
