Los Gatos - Sea of Cortez - "The Rest of the Story"

(0133) is from a few steps further up the hill than Dennis G original picture

(0108) is looking across the cove from the other direction

(0117) nice rocky beach

(0131) if you get more than a few feet inland the terrain and vegetation is much less hospitable

I can't wait!! Unfortunately I have to. Still have 4 years of the kids in school, plus need to build some experience and funds. I know once we go I won't be able to stop.
I truly do appreciate all the pics, every taste of cruising life I get, makes me Hungrier for the full meal. Keep em coming:-)

My mistake. THIS is San Juanico.
Tacoma Sailer posted a pic of Los Gatos.
I will never forget one night when we were anchored here. No moon, and we started to hear the sound of rushing water.
It got louder and louder so we went on deck with the spotlight.
There was a line of white water from the Western shore all the way out to the entrance.
It got closer and closer to us. Eventually we saw a lot of writhing of thousands of squid, swimming back and forth.
Their colors were flashing bright red to silver. They went all around the boat and kept going.
When they reached the shore (in the foreground of this picture) the noise stopped.
The next morning, there were thousands of dead squid on the beach. The pile was about a foot deep.
We saw lots of pangas and the drivers were piling up the squid and carrying them off.
After a couple of days the stench drove us out of there.
The next few anchorages had experienced the same thing, and were equally smelly.

We were in Mexico for 4 years and only experienced this once.

Carefull.. There will always be excuses... I'm 38 and pulling 3 kids out of school as the time is NOW!

Of course funds are not just an excuse. The necessary evil! Without them, you don't get very far.

Re: Pictures of secluded beaches

Travellerw,
I agree, excuse are always available and often easier than action. In regards to the kids, I gave them the choice on how to finish high school. They both want to finish here. So I might as well keep feeding the cruising kitty in the mean time.
We are also booked for live aboard classes in Victoria this spring and hope to do some charters over the next few winters to sample various boats and cruising grounds.
Do feel free to invite us to your boat if you feel the need to chat withfellow Albertans though;-)

Re: Pictures of secluded beaches

The two first ones are in Rangiroa, the third is in Barbuda.

More photos of Rangiroa on our blog here: http://sailingsalamander.blogspot.com/search/label/Rangiroa

More secluded beaches on our blog here:

There is a google-translate button, but picture should be ok, even in French.
Regards from Bora-Bora

Damn, it's that time again. It's been snowing since we left for the annapolis boat show. What a way to come home
I've been looking at all these great pics and wondered what new favorite beaches you all have found.Click image for larger version
