Perkins 3 bolt thermostat housing cover

So curious if anyone else has ran into the issue of the bolt pattern for their thermostat housing being very different than what in listed in the user manual and online part guides?

This boat is new to us (morgan out island 41'6") and the learning curve is huge and would really appreciate any advice.

Current plan is to just make my own gaskets as I cannot find one that matches between the perkins 4-154 and the bowman pe 250

This is were I get most of the parts and filters for my 4-107. Very helpful and best prices around.
They are in Richfield Washington.

The 4-154 is a great engine, but one of the lesser used ones and parts can be tough for some I understand. If you run across spares, collect them!

Re: Perkins 3 bolt thermostat housing cover

Just got some gaskets for my engine, identical to yours. I used either one of the following, and they have a large range of Perkins parts:
Perkins 4154 and Perkins 4154 / 200 Series - Parts Supply Corporation - EngNet

Perkins 4.154 engine overhaul kit

Gaskets are not cheap! I just had to remove the heat exchanger (Bowman also) and I had to pay about $60 for the 4 exhaust manifold gaskets. I make my own main exhaust outlet gasket and that seems to work fine. Sometimes I'll make my own for low pressure areas and if dimensions are not too tight/critical.

Good luck with the 4-154. I'm very impressed with it's longevity (1982), runs like a watch after 4+K hours, and all the people I've talked to say its well worth keeping it in the boat as long as I can get any parts needed. The only mechanical problem being that it's English therefore has rear oil seal slow leak. Never enough to notice drop in engine oil level but requires diapers in the engine pan to keep cleanup simple.

Just remembered the second link is in England so shipping is probably horrendous. I got my stuff from the first outfit I listed.

Ebay is a good place to get spares and manuals. Often someone is parting one out. Also one of the best places for new starter or alternator.
Perkins diesels are used in tractors and industrial applications. Often the best prices are from a tractor supply for fw pump and main engine parts.

Re: Perkins 3 bolt thermostat housing cover

Here is what the bolt pattern looks like. As you can see I've got a Never So Fancy cardboard gasket in at the moment. Not the best water type thing in the world but as a temporary fix it seems to be working.

Re: Perkins 3 bolt thermostat housing cover

So if I understand, all you need is a gasket? You can buy proper gasket material at the auto parts store right? We used to make them all the time. Lay the paper over the mating surface of the housing. Tap all the edges with a Ball Peen hammer. Cut the lines that dont cut from the hammer with scissors.
While it's a apart remove that hose and clean up all that corrosion and repaint.
