I'm surprised Oklahoma isn't on the French list.

Are there a lot of Muslims in Oklahoma then ?

Re: NO GO ZONES

You gotta be kiiding me!!!

These are the countries on that list I have very recently visited or lived in and where I also feel very safe. FAR safer than I ever feel when visiting the UK:

Bahrain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Turkey.

That said, Kenomac, it might just be an idea to drop that US flag!

I'd be interested to see how the crime stats in these countries compare to France. Or even more interestingly, to the UK or USA!

Re: NO GO ZONES

Times are a changing very rapidly.

Just for example look at the way Turkey is supporting ISIS in Syria. They are allowing ISIS fighters in Turkey to cross to Syria.
That means they are there.

If they were looking for soft targets theres a myriad of them along the coast... Happily in marinas.

So its crackers to use cruising history of a few years ago when ISIS is a brand new phenomenon.

A very important statement. One needs to update their knowledge by looking at sites such as the US site that detail the current activities in countries and break the countries down into smaller areas.

Also in some cases these do vary by your nationality. While this is often thought to impact US travelers more, there are countries in which the French are considered more the enemy than the US.

Actually the UK site has a good up to date statement on Turkey.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to the towns of Akḉakale and Ceylanpinar and against all but essential travel to areas within 10km of Turkey’s border with Syria.

The FCO advise against all but essential travel to the provinces of Hakkari, Sirnak, Siirt and Tunceli. You should be especially vigilant when travelling in other provinces in south eastern Turkey and in areas close to the Syrian border. See Terrorism and Local Travel - Syrian border.

Over 2,500,000 British nationals visit Turkey every year. Most visits are trouble-free.

I look at Mexico as a good example for us in the US. There are areas that the state department advises against all travel and other areas they have no alerts or warnings for. It is covered state by state on the state department's web site.

This year we spent several months in Turkey and you would not believe it , but 90% of Turkish yachts carry the US flag for some tax reason. Cruising there is as safe as any other place in the European Med.

And just for my own edification, isn't flying under a false flag a little more egregious than sticking a Canadian flag on your luggage?

To reflag in Malta you'll have to establish a Maltese company and pay VAT. Pretty troublesome and expensive. I doubt if Canada would be much easier.

I'm a Canadian citizen living in the USA, actually, I have dual citizenship.

We've really had no issues so far in the Med, only positive experiences flying the red, white & blue. Have even run into a few Spaniards and Italians doing the same in order to avoid taxes and boardings by officials.

You probably haven't received the news yet, but in Oklahoma yesterday a Muslim stabbed and beheaded a woman at his workplace, then attacked a second woman with the intention of doing the same before he was stopped by the company COO who shot him with his concealed carry pistol or revolver. The ISIS wannabe had been trying to convert his fellow workers to islam before they fired him, which ignited the murderous event.

Look for it in todays news.

Yup...same here. My vessel is flaged US. I find no need...yet...to change that. Maybe we could be like that old 007 movie, where Bond's car has the rotating license plate for different countries.

OK, I got to admit at first I thought you were making this up. Then saw the ABC report. What a whacked out world. And people worry about what happens to cruisers?

Ken, in Turkey You will just look as one of myriad Turkish owned, American flagged charter vessels. Oh, may be except one thing, You probably have not "Wilmington, Delaware" written on Your stern...
