New Waterproof Drone With Camera that follows you!

This is a new drone that is actually a camera that follows you. The camera is built in and does 1080p 60 fps or 720p 120 fps. The unit has a power button on it and is completely sealed. You turn on the small puck that is the device it tracks, turn on the drone, and toss it in the air. It fires up, flies a short distance away then follows you either in front, or behind, or circling, or whatever you choose based on the buttons you push on the puck. It flies for 20 min. and if the batteries get weak, it will come back to you and land. If you do something like jump, it automatically goes into higher fps mode (slomo on playback) so you don't have to record the entire time in slomo or do a lot of editing. It also records audio from the puck, not the drone.

Pretty slick for just a little more than a GoPro camera costs. $499 presale, $1,000 after it hits the market in Feb 2016.

For those of us who have always wanted drone video but wanted something waterproof and didn't want to deal with the flying part of it, here it is.

Go for it, just hope you are not anywhere near my personal space. Brings the meaning of noisy dinner parties to a different level.

It's the Selfie Drone! This is what everyone has been wanting since the Selfie Stick was banned in public places.

I hope someone goes into the rental business with them. I've always wanted an overhead video of my boat sailing for a few shots. otherwise I really can't see using one long term. I'd pay $50 a day for one.

Unless you steal the tracking puck, it has no interest in you.

But thanks for playing.

It really is a game changer! Now it's more of a smart camera that can fly on it's own, instead of a helicopter that you have to fly.

Yeah but it's vaporware... it's not for sale until next year!

Did you not see the drone in the video? How do you video something that doesn't exist?

A whole bunch of tech sites have already written reviews on it, CNET, Yahoo, DPReview, a few others. We better warn them that they were hallucinating!

A clever videographer can do interesting things; we know that waterproof drones have been made but we don't know what track record this company does or doesn't have.

It's not 'vapourware', it's in pre production. There's a significant difference.
'
i'll be after one of these for sure. it's just what I wanted to be able to film my sailing under full sail.

Amazing where technology is taking us. It won't be long and I'll be waring a computer on my wrist that doubles as a wrist watch.

Re: New Waterproof Drone With Camera that follows you!

It appears to be a very compact (pocket size?) "personal flying camera" designed to follow a person. It does not yet have object avoidance technology, so the present version might not do well on a sailboat (masts, sails, sheets, rigging might knock it for a loop; its maker says it won't work, for example, for someone running through woods, but would best be used in an open area). It apparently is pre-programmed to lead, follow, or loop around a person, and also seems to have a shorter range and altitude than larger drones/quadcopters.
Lily Robotics' (www.lily.camera) founder, Antoine Balaresque, apparently graduated two years ago from the business school at Berkeley and he and his partner have received about $1 million in start-up/seed funding from an undisclosed angel and from some venture capitalists (Slow Ventures, Upside Partnership, SV Angel, Shana Fisher, Dorm Room Fund, Winklevoss Capital according to Crunchbase). Forbes calls the founder one of their "30 under 30" entrepreneurs. As mentioned before in this thread, the product has been widely reviewed.
So, it appears to be real, although with cautions applicable to dealing with a start-up company, but the current version of the device is perhaps not yet suitable for sailors.
