I would like to have a library of movies to watch.

question; what is my cheapest way/service to download movies to my I pad.

Thanks

Netflix allows members to download movies and TV shows to watch offline.

Not really. You can download to a phone or tablet but not a laptop.
Getting from the phone to a screen is less easy. I had a MHI interface but now the modem phones don't work with that.
There are time limits on the files.
It's a pain.

Good thing djsaxton was asking specifically about an iPad. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that's a tablet.

Once you're at sea and disconnected from the network, you can circumvent time limits by changing your date and time settings.

There are plenty of websites online where you can download movies & TV shows, sans fees. The issue you may run into is the amount of memory you're willing to dedicate to their storage. As they're not exactly small files. So a large capacity external hard drive may be called for.

Use a computer with a 2-4tb external hard drive to share movies with fellow cruisers you meet.

It can't be done on an iPad, (we have three of them) unless the Hard drive is wireless like the Wi-Drive I sometimes use with the iPad.

I believe you can download Netflix, Amazon Prime and now Comcast Xfinity.

Here's a 256GB flash drive that plugs into your iPad.

SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive 256GB (SDIX30N-256G-GN6NE) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUH9BET..._4bZdzbTR8T3TC

I download movies to a 4TB backup drive and transfer some to a 32-64gb micro card. With an adapter i can upload a movie or three to the iPad from the camera card, watch it, then delete it.
I find using my laptop, a small tv/monitor mounted to the bulkhead and cheap computer speakers works WAY better. iDevices are fun and convenient but once you get out of cell tower range are extremely limited.

You can copy movies on Youtube and there are also a few (illegal) torrent sites like thepiratebay and kickasstorrents where you can go nuts downloading almost anything under the sun in music or movies. Often you can find HD movies under 1GB (around 700MB usually) on these sites. Lot's or rare stuff and hard to find recordings.

A 64Gb tablet is very wee for many movies.

Option 1 - Get an external hard drive with wifi access.

Option 2 - If your onboard wifi router has an USB slot, any pen or other drive will likely play the content from the router.

Pens are expensivish, but 500Gb to 1 Tb drives come dirt cheap these days.

Re: movie library for i pad

I was hoping this thread took a different spin.
I have a few movies, TV series, and similar material stored.
There are many ways to save video, I am not an expert, but all my copying is done with a windows or linux PC, desktop, or tablet.
Can i view them on the Ipad or Ipod? Yes. Use VLC and no special purpose hardware is Required to transfer from your PC to your iOS device.
A friend has a large collection of copied DVDs.
I have a hard drive with about as many hours, lower quality.

What I REALLY wanted to see was a list of recommended movies, new, recent and old. Good movies are good, even if old.
I'll start the list.

I just digitized my movie library using the Amerisoft app. 30 movies fit nicely on 64-gb thumbdrive. The app is reasonably priced and easy to use.

The OP has an iPad.

We do this all the time, just get the HDMI adaptor from Apple and a cord to plug into one of the HDMI inputs on your TV. Every TV sold in the past few years has several. Easy peasy......

Re: movie library for i pad

i did this. A Seagate small portable 1TB drive. It creates its own wifi hotspot to connect your iPad iPhone or whatever to it. You'll have to download the app of course.

Cheap solution for a lot of movies or backup solutions as well.
