Miami Balefish/Square Grouper Found at Beach in Key West Today

A jogger or walker found a package floating at shoreline in Key West today.
The package was 75 pounds of cocaine estimated at 2 million dollars.
I would have became a drug addict and a millionaire both in the same day.

About 20 years ago some lady walking on Sombrero Beach in Marathon found a duffel bag full of money washed up on shore. She turned it in.

I've been a key wester for a long long time.
I know about 10 people, mostly born and raised here, aka Conchs, that have found square groupers or loads of cash.
You have better odds of finding square groupers here in the keys than you do winning the lottery.

My lady-friend had a good laugh at my expense when the topic of "square grouper" came up in conversation not too long ago. And I'll also have you know that I did indeed feel rather silly after having been enlightened by her.

In any event, I hope you all don't my me sharing an account of that conversation.

Having said all that, I most certainly would have been tempted to sell that square grouper on ebay had I found it. I'm 'jest sayin'.

I know a guy who found 20g's washed up on the beach in California, and he kept it. Spent most of it on stereo equipment.

I was not. He owns a local record shop. He was just 17 and he had run away from home. He told me he was living under a bridge at the time, and attending Berkeley.
