Marina Bas-du-Fort opinions

I will keep my boat in the Caribbean for the winter. Marina Bas-du-Fort [15534], Guadeloupe, GP seems to be a good marina with reasonable prices. I am looking for opinions, pro and con.

Re: Marina Bas-du-Fort opinions

I spent a couple of weeks sailing in and out of there last fall. The whole crew really enjoyed the harbor amenities: nice restaurants, provisioning (French-YUM), all the yacht services you could want including "high tech".

Nice full size airport with good international connections including an AA non-stop to Miami.

Plenty of short sail destinations: Îles des Saintes, Marie-Galante, Deshaises, and St Anne, with Dominica, Antigua, Montserrat full day sails. Very easy clearance in and out via computer.

I wouldn't hesitate to base there.

I agree with 1ercu and want to add a bit. Pointe-a-Pitre is an interesting city to explore, especially if you investigate the side streets. The people there are very entrepreneurial by nature, so businesses are likely to be discovered in places you'd least expect. Close enough from the marina to walk, but bicycling is best.
