Lower Chesapeake Fun Ports

Ive spent a lot of time sailing on the bay with family and have found a few great ports.. Onanncock and Port Charles are the only towns ive sailed to that have a decent restaurant culture. (and Onanncock isnt much) Im looking for some lower bay destinations that have a fun night life. Im going to be sailing out of Deltaville on Friday mornings and need to be back in Deltaville on Sunday at 4 pm. Where are some great ports?

Actually that didnt sound fair. Onancock is actually a great little port and the 2 or so restaurants are excellent. Im just saying its a small port.

Welcome aboard! A couple ideas to explore: During the summer, a trolley runs continuously from Kilmarnock through White Stone and Irvington (tie up at Chesapeake Boat Basin). Tides Inn in Irvington would work as a direct destination with its restaurants.

Urbanna, though not "on the bay" has many choices and a trolley.

Mathews has my favorite restaurant in the world (Southwind), but you would need to anchor and dinghy up Put-In Creek...worth it. There will soon be several other restaurants in Mathews. Have a fun summer! (I'll be watching this thread to get more ideas for my crew!)

I usually head up the Rappahannock a couple times a year. I usually stay at the Tides Lodge too. Didn't realize about the Trolley though. That definitely makes a difference. Ive done Urbana too. That a fun sail first week of November for the Oyster Festival.

Re: Lower Chesapeake Fun Ports

Yorktown is nice. I stayed at the York River Yacht Haven, across the York river from Yorktown. They were very friendly and helpfull. The River's Inn Restaurant was good. Check them out at Welcome to York River Yacht Haven... | York River Yacht Haven ... simply the finest | A Full Service Marina, Gloucester Point, Virginia

There are piers on the Yorktown side, but I have not been there yet. Yorktown is great if you like history and there are plenty of shops near the piers.
