Island Hopping Advice???

Don't know if this is the correct forum or maybe its time to start another...

I'm looking to island hop in the Bahamas but have never visited before. Looking at the ferry reviews between islands and varying opinions on which locations are preferred I'm no more settled (or informed) as when i concocted this caper in my head.

Am I barking up the wrong tree, or is this feasible to see a few of the 600 islands that are most popular? Is inter island travel flexible or am i to be waiting for one ferry a day that might be sold out or not arriving daily?

Any places to see or fish on the cheap? any experience is appreciated.

Thanks. Gene

Looks like you may have misunderstood what these forums are all about.

"Cruisers" are people who wander about on their own boats ( or sometimes act as crew on other peoples boats). The participants here don't use commercial ferry services to get about.

I am aware they cruise. Are you aware that the adventurous side may incline said cruisers to keep to their moorings as they travel about and change their perspective?

Perhaps others relish in discovering their destination by other means once arriving? I wouldnt be so presumptive...

Hi! If you'd like to island-hop in the Bahamas, get a travel guide that will detail places, plans, itineraries and cost. Amazon.com has a bunch of these guide books listed for sale; around $25 USD each. Frommers.com, now on-line, is equally good but not as comprehensive as a travel guide book. Enjoy!

Yes it's possible. Fly in to Nassau and go down to Potters Cay where all the mailboats are. No need to book. Just ask the skipper. They also have fast ferries now that go between the main settlements. No longer cheap and when you get to your destination accommodation will be expensive. Usual service is weekly, however the major ports might have two or three mailboats servicing them. You will need a fair amount of time and money and a lot of flexibility.

Vasco is correct. You can move all about on the freight boats, however their schedules are somewhat erratic and the shoreside accommodations will be expensive.
