Good point; hence why I asked if there's a better place for this type of post.
We plan on documenting our experiences during the next several years, whether it's sailing, maintenance, general planning, etc as we begin the transition to retiring and becoming full time liveaboards. We'd like it to be an interactive process wherein we share what we're doing and get input from others who've either done it, are doing it, or want to do it.



So to start...
- 2023 is the transition year to becoming liveaboards

- continue to use our current boat for sailing, maintenance, and systems experience
- get crewing experience on 45-50' multihulls to build our sail resume

- continue to find ways to save money

So, it’s a pretty general plan right now. But everyone’s gotta start somewhere. We had a 5-year plan that took 10 years .

Where are you sailing now? What have you learned so far? For that matter, why choose the cruising lifestyle for retirement?

And what does GTFO stand for?

We do have more milestones and decision point we think (want) we need to hit over the course of the next several years. I figured a broad overview would get the conversation going.


Currently we sail in the Chesapeake Bay. Due to other life commitments though, we're only able to get out every other weekend (at best).

Things we've learned could probably be summed up in the acronym of EAFP (Everything's a F***ing Project).


GTFO stands for Get The F*** Out. And that's our plan. We like the cruising lifestyle because we both have a strong sense of adventure and curiousity.
