Summertime anchor, good friends, I put on 'Watina', Andy Palicio and the Garifuna Collective from Belize. Carribean music at its best. Everyone asks...'who is that?' Its that good.

I make various mood playlists for the IPod. Suffer from too much music. Probably listen to the same 200 songs of 11,000 available. Fun to have guests try to think of something I don't have though. We sometimes end up tripping down memory lane!
For the gals, check out "The Women's Boat" - Toni Childs (I believe it was written for the Womens America's Cup team) Some Fav's: Let The Music Play - G.Love feat. Ben Harper (Cool man, just cool) Sweet Emotion - Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon (What you think it is, like you've never heard it played before) Theme From The Pink Panther - Derek Sebastian & Pure Heart (Hawiian Style) Deep Powder - The Rippingtons (I close my eyes and I am transported away, be it snow or sail, try it with headphones!) Cool Change - Little River Band (mellow and reflective, could have been written for cruisers!) Breathe, Extreme mix - Soulfood (from the soundtrack for the IMAX movie "Extreme", very tribal) God, now I really have to go sailing! |

This may be trite ... but for us the Kenny Chesney - "Be As You Are" album hits the spot and since we are not on the water at the moment ... takes us back to easy evenings on the hook, watching the sun set behind St. John. Oh how I miss Jost Van Dyke!
Some other good "chill" favs are any Jack Johnson and for a more blue grassy feel Mindy Smith. Aren't we blessed to have Ipods and MP3 Players!!! Maybe that is why many of the old salts have picked up an instrument of some variety! :-) |

No matter how slowly things go, putting on my Aitutaki CD always makes me remember what it was like when I was there. The music instantly reminds me of where I am going when she and I are ready -- despite the sanding and wiring and wet diesel. I cannot find the exact same CD on line, but these two links give an idea of what music is like where I am going and what I enjoy on the boat.

I have found that most "hippie songs" as my sister likes to call them are actually pretty good for sailing but you can't beat good ol' country music.

I listen to NPR when I'm working on the boat in the docks here in San Diego; it's a nice way to pass the time with a heat gun or sander in my hand. Underway I like silence, or maybe some Bruce Springsteen. Old 97's are top notch, as are The Pogues.

I haven't tried them while sailing, but my experience is you can never go wrong with The Pogues.

For me, I need the music to reflect the conditions
Wild and stormy, crank up the volume, a lazy drift, and something soothing
