If you are sitting at your desk and want a little 'Island Time' try this out. It's an online island music radio station...

Online Travel Mix Radio Station - Live365 Internet Radio - Island Time

Oh, and don't forget Jack Johnson when you're adding music to your MP3 payer.

Wagner's "The Flight of the Valkries," of course.

I have to go with anything that isn't disco, (c)rap, Kenny Gee I'm annoying, jurassic rock. Basically anything on radio margaritaville is kewl, but sometimes I rock out with the Underground Garage.

I have been getting away from Rock and Pop the past few years and getting more into Jazz and Classical. I still love Rock and Pop though. I was playing some music from StarWars in classic SF Bay square-wave chop last week...and boy did it fit the situation.

I also like (try not to laugh too hard) Christopher Cross when I am feeling mellow. Listening to his song "Sailing" while I am motoring around in a stink-pot makes me want to be there.

Interestingly, a friend of mine who has cruised all over the Pacific for years let me copy his music collection of about 50,000 songs. No, thats not a typo. And yes, I am guilty of piracy, so shoot me! I still own about 300 CD's that I purchased if that is any consolation. Anyways, my friend got most of his music from other cruisers..and let me tell ya, cruisers music is ALL over the spectrum. I have some home recorded dance music from Tonga, Fiji and a few small islands which is really cool.

Imagine2frolic you did me a great favor posting IZ and his somewhere over the rainbow. I have watched several clips on youtube and he was great. What a wonderfully talented man.

irwinsailor,

The first time I heard Over the Rainbow, by Iz. I was pleasantly surprised how he slipped in one of my all time favorite by Sachmo. Wonderful World was my wake up song for years. I always woke before the alarm, but then that song would glide into my day giving me a great start.....P.S. You're welcome

We're pretty ecclectic and don't have any night sailing musical traditions. But, everytime the mainsail first goes up we play Beethoven's Ode to Joy:

If it is a dark moonless night and we are quietly ghosting along I often put on a compilation of early Leonard Cohen music. http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/

Suzanne, Story of Isaac, Sisters of Mercy, Chelsea Hotel, Famous Blue Raincoat, Avalanche, Bird on the Wire etc… When I listen to his music and words the times seems to fly by.

This might sound strange in terms of lifting my spirit but for years when on a black night his brilliant words on a dark palate somehow inspire me and I always finished with K.D. Lang’s wonderful version of his Hallelujah!

Buffett, Larry Joe Taylor, Eric Stone are our favorite sailing artists but we also listen to lots of 60's and 70's rock & roll. Clapton and Seager are pretty popular with our gang too.

This might be a slight thread tangent, but what's the prefered digital music format by cruisers? I tried keeping both MP3 and iTunes but that got akward, now mostly iTunes as there seems more accessories & stuff (I run the iPod thru a small dock with infrared remote).
Thanks, John
PS - Southern Cross by CSNY is hard to beat.
