DVD onboard

Suggestion: get a laptop with large capacity internal hard drive or external one in USB caddy. Copy all your DVD's to it using one of the many software applications on the market (I use DVD Fab Platinum which doesn't mess up your optical drive regional settings). Play movies on laptop or couple it to TV with s-video or VGA connection if you have new LCD TV with such. You can buy small s-video to SCART or RCA adaptor if you have older TV with AV input. You will need sound feed as well to TV/monitor.

You will have all your movie entertainment in one place with no storage issues.

I don't think a DVD player is necessary if you have a computer onboard. Also, there is not much distinction between TV's and monitors anymore. Purchase a monitor with a built in tuner or purchase an external tuner. Try to find a monitor with S-Video, VGA, DVI and maybe even HDMI. Owning such a monitor will give you greater flexibility in what you can watch on it. If you have a Bluray player/burner in your computer you could watch movies in high definition, provided you bought a monitor with enough resolution. There are graphics cards with HDMI out ports for watching movies in high definition.
