That is exactly what we did in Brunei as the rigs are in 30m of water and stand perhaps 20m above the sea level are totally un-manned. What would be almost a barren desert is transformed into haven for wild life. It will be interesting to see if the wind farms appearing at sea across NW European coasts are also colonised and provide protection as trawlers can't get in.

This was an unmanned production rig, but even when manned they don't care as long as you move when a supply vessel needs to approach. Doesn't happen very often.

They will often come down and ask how the diving is. I have been doing it in this area for 50 years. (I started when I was barely old enough to remember).
