Deadliest Catch

First of all I just want to put it out there that this is a great show and that I am addicted to it.

But I also wanted to ask a question. The crab boats have a throttle and auto pilot but no wheel, at least not one that is in sight. What is up with this?

They use a jog stick, electric over hydraulic.

If I remember correctly on one of the shows they have a shot of the bridge of the "Northwestern" and it has a small wheel on the centerline and joysticks on the wings.

A ship (boat) without a wheel just isn't right in my books.

While his hands are in his lap I don't think he is manipulating his little joystick thing.

As they say in the fighter world - HOTAS! (hands on throttle and stick - 'splains a lot about fighter pilots)

With his hands in his lap, he could be manipulating his JOYSTICK....

The Dashew's new motor yacht Wind Horse uses a similar toggle for steering.
