Cannes in September (Cannes Royale Regata)

I'm going to be in Cannes in September for one day (Wednesday) right in the middle of the Regata week.

Sadly, I'll miss the boat show which is the week before.

If anyone is familiar with this event, I'd like some advice please:

1) I would like to see some of the French made catamarans (FP, Outremer, etc). Will there be any still on display around that time?
2) Does this event attract a large crowd? Cruisers maybe who we can meet and talk to?
3) Should I forgo the other activities that day in favor of going to the Regata? I'll be touring from a cruise ship with a very large group, a lot of whom will be visiting the monastaries on Saint Honorat. Is that a "Must See"? Or is the Regatta going to be more fun (for someone without a boat)
