Bootlegged DVDs

I have a question that maybe someone with personal experience can answer: Are there any legal issues with taking bootlegged DVDs into other countries? I'm not talking about cases of DVDs to resell, just personal copies of a few movies in your DVD library? How about bringing them back into the US?

Re: Bootlegged DVDs

In some countries, Customs officers have the right to search a yacht for illegal copies of DVD or software. However, in France, it's often possible to negociate a fine with Customs and avoid a trial.

Cleared in and out of at least 20 countries and no one has ever asked or looked. YMMV

Re: Bootlegged DVDs

Legally...absolutely. In almost every country, it is illegal to bootleg DVDs or CDs.

Practically...assuming it's not a crazy amount, highly unlikely to be an issue.

Re: Bootlegged DVDs

A few countries may be sensitive to what could be Porno, when I went to Korea in 99, they were real concerned about some video tapes I had, were going to confiscate them, I told them they were family videos and no they could not have them, surprisingly they backed off.

Re: Bootlegged DVDs

No Porn and no large amounts of DVDs, just a couple of personally copied movies, that frankly I'd be ok with them being confiscated, I just don't want to end up in a third world jail for customs violations.

Bootlegged DVDs

It's non factory, home made DVD's that get them worried it's Porn or did in Korea and especially an Arab country or two that I visited.
I don't think you will have any trouble either, just don't get too upset if they want to take them.
