I did it all the time in Japan, but I was crazy and young then running forty mph between stopped trucks on the kōsokudōro in tokyo.

Hey - thanks! It's a lightning. Stock original frame converted to single downtube and an old no-name hardtail section. Engine is .30 over. Stock amals, Biltwell bars, Scully's solo seat, etc. Fabbing up an original '40 Ford taillight now and a cut down chrome front fender for a rear.

Re: Bikers on Board ?
My ride is a 2010 Honda 750 RS. I love it! It's really nimble and handles the twisties with total control. Seems like the time I'm not cruising, is divided between riding, and working on boats. It could be worse...

I agree with you about "true" straight pipes. They are way, way too loud! There are, however, aftermarket pipes that have free flow glass packed baffles. They look like straight pipes, but simply have less restriction, a MUCH deeper rumble, and about 15% more volume. I have even made my own.
Its not that I'm too old. I had straight pipes as a kid... I'm just not an ass hole any more.

Longtall,
I am green with envy! Had a 93 gsxg, and loved it. Been drooling over the 1400 ever since they came out, but they were not sold in the U.S.. what part of the world are you in?

Re: Bikers on Board ?
Straight pipes save lives, so the idea goes. I own a Gold Wing with both loud and quiet pipes, depending on how I have the exhaust switch set, and this V8 monster that is all straight.

This is not legal to ride that way anywhere that I know of.
I have split lanes, as you call it. Done it many times on narrow two lane highways, but it is a rather silly dangerous notion that gets people killed. As one gets older, one gets wiser

I had a 650 Bonnieville for 17 years, I replaced the Amals with 28 mm Mikuni's,
Hell of a difference,
That hard tail would be hard on the spine,
Looks good,

I'm hearin' ya. I'm an Aussie, the big chunk to the West of our little island. Fell in love with the bike in 2007, took me 4 years to finally own one but worth it. Truly an awesome machine for the naked, retro look rider who would like the acceleration, handling and stopping/power of a modern muscle bike. BTW it can out accelerate an R1 in a rolloff. Only one way I could know that.
Sorry to hear the US never got this machine. Considering the country was Suzuki's happy hunting ground in the '80's that's hard to believe.
Cheers!

Yeah, I've considered Mikunis. I ran them on a 650XS I had. This is my first foray into Brit stuff so I'm gonna try the Amals for a while.
As for the hard tail - I live in New Orleans so its gonna be even worse than you think!
Gotta live hard to be hard!
