Re: Better Than TV On A Sailboat

It's based on the low quality dual-4K digital projector system, as used in multiplexes, not the real IMAX with a 70mm film projector.

As anyone who's watched an IMAX movie on the digital system will appreciate, the quality is pretty poor.

Didn't realize this. I'll have to cross it off my list and stick with my Sony short wave radio for entertainment.

Re: Better Than TV On A Sailboat

Call me a Luddite, but I don't get the whole TV on a boat thing. Mind you, I don't have one at home either.

As soon as I hear TV on board, I think "dock queen". Good grief, it is sailing, and exploring new grounds and venues. Why waste time looking at a TV screen?

We have something better. It's called a cockpit. We can sit in it and have a continuously changing show. Nature documentaries, slapstick sailor comedies, beautiful marine art. And it doesn't draw down our batteries.

Re: Better Than TV On A Sailboat

"The trademark IMAX dual 4k projection screen isn’t just for Hollywood movies, either. It will also use the ship’s live underwater CCTV footage to spy on the sea critters underneath and around the 492-foot yacht, projecting it onto the big screen."

I have planned one for my 33 foot boat but could not get a good place for the underwater camera, so I just gave up in frustration....

I wonder who this is for and what goes on on someones mind to want such a thing.
To me this is legal money laundering, this boat very likely belongs to a corporation and they can... oh well never mind.

The camera feed would be fun to watch at times, I would think.

Re: Better Than TV On A Sailboat

We just have a little DVD player and a stash of movies to keep the little ones happy during long hauls. Sometimes when the weather is cruddy and we just want to cuddle up this is a good option and runs off the inverter. Stashes away easily.

Perhaps it's something to do when the wind kicks up or the rain is pouring down. Sure, a nice walk on the beach or a bonfire is great when the weather is good, but sometimes you're stuck indoors waiting for the storm to pass.

Re: Better Than TV On A Sailboat

Your dock queen comment is so true, there are so many floating trailer parks these days. I must be a luddite too cause I sure could go back in time and NOT have a cell phone, a computer (here I am using one) or a tv. I fear our ability to communicate with each other over the decades is going to get weird. I always thought the height of insanity was a car alarm cause then who is in charge? your car! and you have to answer it. If someone wants to steal my car I will gladly let them rather than run outside and confront the idiot.
